Pakistan to Export Mangoes to US

Pakistan will export a consignment of high quality mangoes to the US after trying for a long time to tap into the American fruit market, officials said.

The Pakistan Horticulture Development and Export Company (PHDEC) with support from the ministry of commerce has made all arrangements to send the shipment of Pakistani mangoes to the US by the end of July, the Online news agency reported.

The first consignment would be sent July 27. It would comprise the Chaunsa variety of the fruit. Approximately 1200 kg will be sent.

Iran To Increase Gas Exports To Pakistan

Iran’s deputy oil minister and managing director of National Iranian Gas Company, Javad Owji, said that new round of talks between Iran and Pakistan on gas cooperation was held on 26 June.

Owji said: “If an agreement is finalized, the volume of Iranian gas exported to Pakistan will increase to 30m cubic meters per day.” Iran’s Oil Ministry Caretaker Mohammad Aliabadi and Pakistan’s Energy and Natural Resources Minster Dr Asim Hussain led the talks, Mehr news agency reported.

‘Re-engineering Pakistan’ exhibition opens

The three-day “Re-engineering Pakistan” exhibition started on Tuesday at the Karachi Expo Centre under the Academic and Social Circle, a subsidiary social wing of the All Pakistan Muttahida Students Organisation (APMSO). The exhibition was opened by member of the Co-ordination Committee Nasrin Jalil and Provincial Minister for Industries Rauf Siddiqui. Member Co-ordination Committee Wasay Jalil, Kunwar Khalid Yunus, Qasim Ali Raza, Salim Tajik, Dr Sagheer Ahmed, Vice-Chancellor University of Karachi (KU) Dr Pirzada Qasim Siddiqui, office-bearers of APMSO and a large number of other dignitaries from the industry were also present on the occasion.

Business Council urges US to support Pak economy

The Pak US Business Council on Tuesday urged visiting US Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources Thomas R Nides to honour recommendation of the US Chamber of Commerce for duty-free import of Pak products on urgent basis to strengthen its economy. Founder Chairman Pak-US Business Council and VP SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry,Pak chapter Iftikhar Ali Malik while talking to media here said that President US Chamber of Commerce Thomas Donohue had fully supported the long standing demand of duty-free imports of Pak products on urgent basis.

Pakistan to use Tajikistan as gateway to Europe

Tariq Iqbal Puri, while leading a trade delegation to Tajikistan, said Pakistani products can be promoted by setting up a warehouse in the central Asian country. He said instead of letters of credit, Tajik traders could strike deals on cash or credit after physical examination of goods in the warehouse. More >

Exports of engineering goods can cross $1bn

Pakistan’s exports of engineering goods including surgical instruments, cutlery and electric fans can go beyond $1 billion with the introduction of standardisation and certification.

Chief Executive of Engineering Development Board (EDB) Eitezaz Niazi said Pakistan’s presently, the exports value of these three products was $790 million or 4 percent of country’s total export during last year of which surgical items secured a major share of 32 percent.

‘Pakistan has 33 tcf tight gas reserves’

Pakistan has an estimated tight gas reserves of 33 trillion cubic feet (tcf) which are more than the existing estimated natural gas reserves of 27 tcf in the country, said the Deputy Managing Director (operations) of Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) Syed Hassan Nawab. More >

Expo Pakistan 2011 from Oct 20

The mega exhibition to showcase country’s complete value chain, Expo Pakistan 2011 will be held at Karachi Expo Centre from October 20-23.

Similarly, a trade and investment multilateral conference is also being organized in collaboration with Board of Investment, a dozen of bilateral forums and trade associations to highlight five specific sectors of the economy for investment.

This was stated by the chief executive Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) Tariq Iqbal Puri while addressing a press conference alongwith a prominent businessmen and president Pak-Japan Business Forum Abdul Kader Jaffer here Thursday.

India, Pakistan ‘may test wheat export records’

India and Pakistan could be poised to test their wheat export records, signalling that nearly 8 million tonnes in extra supplies could hit the market, the world’s biggest seller of the grain said.

It is likely that India, which will next week decide on whether to relax a four-year ban on mainstream wheat exports, will permit shipments of 1 million- 2 million tonnes, Canadian Wheat Board (CWB) said.
