Expo ‘It’s all about Chemistry” inaugurated

A Traveling Expo on “It’s all about Chemistry” inaugurated at Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur, jointly organized by Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) Islamabad, Embassy of France and Science Centre, France on Tuesday. Prof Dr. Ghulam Raza Bhatti Pro-Vice Chancellor Shikarpur Campus SALU, Khairpur inaugurated the Expo. On the occasion, addressing the ceremony Prof Dr. Ghulam Raza Bhatti said that we must strive hard for the science, because the science is must for the development of country and travelling expo is the great effort of PSF. This expo will pave the way of knowledge to researchers and students.

Garment sector loses $800 million export orders

The garment sector lost export orders of $800 million during the first five months of this fiscal year because of the electricity crisis. The garment exports declined by 10 per cent in October and 17 per cent in November.
“If the European Union puts a ceiling on the export of seven items which are included in the market access package, the garment exports will fall further and thousands of workers will lose their jobs,” Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (Prgmea) chairman Shehzad Salim said at a media briefing here on Tuesday.
Export of chemicals, pharma products surges 43.02pc

The export of chemicals and pharma products surged by 43.02 percent during first quarter of current year as compared to the same period of last year.
The country has exported the commodities worth US$ 257.232 million during July-September 2011 against the export of US$ 179.853 million in July-September 2010.
Pak Petroleum, Coal Exports Up 38 Percent

Pakistan’s petroleum and coal exports rose by over 38 percent in the first quarter of 2011 compared to the corresponding period last year.
During July-September 2011-12, it exported petroleum and coal products worth $374.48 million compared to $270.56 million during the same period in 2010-11, The News reported Wednesday quoting the Federal Board of Statistics (FBS).
Pakistan’s textile export earnings to fall by $1 billion

Weak demand and higher output has depressed world cotton prices and will cost Pakistan more than $1 billion in key textile exports for the fiscal year 2011/12, despite an expected bumper crop, industry officials said on Wednesday.
Textiles and cotton account for nearly 60 percent of Pakistan’s exports and are a major source of foreign exchange for its fragile economy, kept afloat by an $11 billion International Monetary Fund loan secured in 2008.
“This year’s textile exports will be between $12.0 billion and $12.5 billion, because of the fall in world cotton prices,” Yasin Siddik, a top industry official, told Reuters.
Pakistan to Export Mangoes to US

Pakistan will export a consignment of high quality mangoes to the US after trying for a long time to tap into the American fruit market, officials said.
The Pakistan Horticulture Development and Export Company (PHDEC) with support from the ministry of commerce has made all arrangements to send the shipment of Pakistani mangoes to the US by the end of July, the Online news agency reported.
The first consignment would be sent July 27. It would comprise the Chaunsa variety of the fruit. Approximately 1200 kg will be sent.
Iran To Increase Gas Exports To Pakistan

Iran’s deputy oil minister and managing director of National Iranian Gas Company, Javad Owji, said that new round of talks between Iran and Pakistan on gas cooperation was held on 26 June.
Owji said: “If an agreement is finalized, the volume of Iranian gas exported to Pakistan will increase to 30m cubic meters per day.” Iran’s Oil Ministry Caretaker Mohammad Aliabadi and Pakistan’s Energy and Natural Resources Minster Dr Asim Hussain led the talks, Mehr news agency reported.
‘Re-engineering Pakistan’ exhibition opens

The three-day “Re-engineering Pakistan” exhibition started on Tuesday at the Karachi Expo Centre under the Academic and Social Circle, a subsidiary social wing of the All Pakistan Muttahida Students Organisation (APMSO). The exhibition was opened by member of the Co-ordination Committee Nasrin Jalil and Provincial Minister for Industries Rauf Siddiqui. Member Co-ordination Committee Wasay Jalil, Kunwar Khalid Yunus, Qasim Ali Raza, Salim Tajik, Dr Sagheer Ahmed, Vice-Chancellor University of Karachi (KU) Dr Pirzada Qasim Siddiqui, office-bearers of APMSO and a large number of other dignitaries from the industry were also present on the occasion.

Pakistani mangoes made their debut in the huge US market on Saturday, but this was achieved only after a five-year struggle waged by some dedicated officials in Pakistan and some US leaders committed to provide Pakistan a better trade option.
